Abstract :
in an earlier work by Singace er al. [Singace, A. A., ElSobky, H. and Reddy, T. Y. (1994). On the eccentricity factor in the progressive crushing of tubes. Inf. J. Solids. Struct. 32, 3589-36021 an attempt was made to experimentally validate the eccentricity factor, m, in the progressive crushing of tubes. The test was made on an aluminium tube of a fI/t ratio ~31. This paper experimentally investigates the effect of the D/f ratio and the tube material on the value of m given theoretically by 0.65. The values of the inward and the outward folding angles, denoted by a, and /I0 respectively, were also evaluated. Good agreement was obtained between the experimental values and those produced by the analysis. Influence of strain hardening was evident on the value of tn. Copyright c) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd.
