On Lenskyʹs hypothesis of local determinability under nonproportional cyclic loading

series of experiments on steel 40 was conducted under nonproportional cyclic loadings. Using data from this experimental investigation, Lensky’s hypothesis of local determinability is analysed in elastic and elasto-plastic conditions. It is shown that, under nonproportional cyclic loading paths, the above hypothesis does not hold in Ilyushin’s total strain space, nor in the plastic strain space. 0 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
