Abstract :
Using the alternating method and the complex function technique of Muskhelishvili the stress field is obtained for a scalloped disk with noncentral holes. Based on this stress field an axisymmetric substitute structure is devised which allows for the determination of the stress concentration factors at holes and scallops without need for a 3-dimensional calculation. The method makes axisymmetric Finite Element calculations of large, predominantly axisymmetric structures such as aircraft engine compressor and turbine disks, in which the non-axisymmetric disturbances are modelled by axisymmetric elements with different material parameters, particularly attractive. 0 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
