Rolling compliance for elastic and visco-elastic conforming binder contact

This article presents a method of analysis for deriving expressions of the rolling compliance for a system of two elastic particles bonded by a thin layer of elastic or visco-elastic binder. The governing equations of rolling compliance for this system are Fredholm integral equations of the second type for which it is very difficult to find closed-form solutions. The method of analysis is proposed to derive closed-form compliances in the form of the upper and lower bounds. The best estimate of rolling compliance is then derived based on the upper and lower bound solutions. © 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
