Abstract :
This study deals with a nonlinear rate-dependent stick-slip phenomenon which may occur at a rubber-to-metal interface. This type of nonlinear behavior has been observed at the interface between the guide roller and the rail of a typical elevator in motion. The main objectives of the present study are (1) to show the signi®cant e€ect of the nonlinearity, (2) to propose its mathematical model with a two-stage parameter estimation method, and (3) to suggest an ecient experimental technique for the parameter estimation.
