Risk of pneumothorax as a complication of diagnostic fine needle aspiration or therapeutic needling of the breast: should the patient be warned?

Breast procedures which can result in pneumothorax are discussed. Increasing numbers of reports of pneumothorax following fine needle aspiration cytology are being published. The pros and cons of warning patients of this complications are discussed.
