Item factor analysis of the seventy-one experimental items of the Italian version of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

The 166 items of the Italian version of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Form F, which includes 71 experimental items, were subjected to a rotated, simple-structure factor analysis with a sample of 1798 subjects to see if some of the experimental items have relevant loadings on the main factors. Six factors were obtained, of which four resembled the four MBTI scales. Only nine of the 71 experimental items had high loadings on the factors resembling the four MBTI scales. The 71 experimental items were also subjected to a rotated, simple-structure factor analysis. Six factors were obtained. They showed that the 71 experimental items do not form clear scales and therefore need to be discarded.
