Abstract
Based on Ellisʹ (1962, 1995) RET theory, the present study examined the validity of a diathesis (irrational beliefs) × stress (negative life experience) model for predicting depressive symptoms. Results of analysis of variance indicated significant main effects for irrational beliefs and negative life stress. However, no significant diathesis × stress interaction was found. Implications for rational emotive therapy are discussed.
