Abstract :
The concurrent validity of a 12-item scale of social conservatism is examined among 171 English students (68 males, 103 females) by examining scores within the context of four theoretical perspectives of conservatism. As predicted, higher scores on the conservatism scale are found to be positively associated with parental values and beliefs, obsessional personality traits, age, a dislike for complex pictures and a liking for simple pictures. The present findings suggest concurrent validity for this measure of conservatism.
