Abstract :
The use of high-strength concrete (HSC) with compressive strengths exceeding 50 MPa is becoming popular worldwide. In most cases, the use of HSC in columns allows smaller cross sections to be adopted, implying that slenderness effects are enhanced. This outcome means that consideration and evaluation of slenderness effects in HSC columns are more critical than in normal-strength concrete columns. This paper reviews the applicability of the existing moment magnification method given in ACI and Australian codes to cover the slenderness effects in high-strength columns up to 100 MPa. A numerical method is suggested to conduct more accurate analyses of slender columns. Finally, the analytical results are compared with the experimental results.
