Abstract :
The aim of the present work was to validate an Italian version of the composite scale (CS) of morningness (Smith, Reilly & Midkiff, 1989: Smith, C.S., Reilly, C., & Midkiff, K. (1989). Evaluation of three circadian rhythm questionnaires with suggestions for an improved measure of morningness. Journal of Applied Psychology, 74(5), 728–738) by means of psychological and physiological variables. A sample of 89 Ss was administered the CS. Body temperature, subjective alertness and subjective mood readings were collected at 8 a.m., 2 p.m. and 11 p.m. On the whole results indicate a good validity of CS. With regard to the criterion converting CS scores into a type, new standard cut-off scores are discussed in the present study.
