  • Abstract
A knowledge of building physics is indispensable in the design and construction of buildings which have to comply with todayʹs standards as regards the impact of environmental protection and sustainable development. This applies equally to the design team, those carrying out the work and the owner of the building under construction.Architects, civil engineers, building services engineers, construction firms and construction supervising authorities must, therefore, become deeply familiar with the building-physics effects of energy saving, moisture protection and sound insulation as well as the climatic and environmental changes involved in the entire construction process. The disciplines of building physics and building services, in particular, must improve their co-operation.
