The neuroendocrine immunology of rheumatoid arthritis

Summary Rheumatoid arthritis patients have defective neuroendocrine-immune responses to the stress of inflammation, and currently available data shows that this contributes to the pathophysiology of the disease. The advances in neuroendocrine immunology have improved our understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms involved in RA. These observations raise important therapeutic questions which are certainly worth further investigation as they may open up novel avenues for the management of the disease.
