Best book lists have been a tradition among librarians since the Alexandria Library. They continue to be important in shaping reading habits, although modern technology has tended to shift the lists to a lesser place in the library. With them has gone the focus on reader guidance and services. Both should be enthusiastically supported. The primary purpose of the library is to provide readers with the best in reading.
