Abstract
Thin-layer drying experiments were conducted with barley at three radiation intensities, 0.167, 0.333 and 0.500 W cm-2; three inlet air velocities, 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7 m s-1; two levels of initial moisture 25 and 40% d.b.; and two levels of inlet air relative humidity, 36 and 60%. A computer controlled data logging system was used to measure loss in weight at specified time interval. A total of 72 drying runs were conducted comprised of two replications. The drying data were fitted to the modified exponential model using NLIN regression technique. The coefficients obtained were then correlated against independent variables using stepwise multiple linear regression. The proposed model gave adequate simulation of the experimental data.
