Panic disorder is a newly recognized psychiatric illness involving unexpected, unprovoked attacks of anxiety. Patients with panic disorder commonly seek treatment in the ED. It is important for the emergency physician to properly recognize and categorize this disorder to initiate appropriate treatment.
