Abstract
Seizures may produce significant muscular tension capable of fracturing bone. We present a patient who, after having a witnessed seizure, presented to the emergency department with bilateral hip pain and was diagnosed with bilateral acetabular fractures. A review of the literature revealed only 2 other cases of atraumatic bilateral acetabular fractures resulting from a seizure. Fractures in general are a rare complication of seizure and have been reported to occur in 0.25% to 2.4% of patients who experience seizures. Although fractures are uncommon, they should be considered when a patient is evaluated after a seizure episode.
