Abstract :
Polyethylene glycol-based aqueous biphasic systems, which are inexpensive, nontoxic, and nonflammable, can be used to concentrate technetium-99m from low specific activity molybdenum-99 by extraction from solutions containing high concentrations of hydroxide and/or molybdate. Isolation of the technetium-99m can be achieved by chemical reduction and back extraction into a solution containing an imaging agent, which may be suitable for direct injection into the body.
