Abstract :
Asymmetric cyanine dyes (penta- and heptamethines) prepared by coupling Fischerʹs base or Fischerʹs aldehyde with malononitrile dimer or analogous compounds are described. Dye characteristics are given and structure-color correlations are discussed.
