Abstract
A new chromium thiophosphate Cr4(P2S6)3was synthesized by solid state reaction between Na4P2S6· 6H2O and CrCl3· 6H2O at room temperature rather than by the ceramic method. The product was characterized by means of XRD, Raman spectroscopy, and magnetic measurements. XRD shows that Cr4(P2S6)3, isostructural with Ga4(P2S6)3, crystallizes in the monoclinic system witha=0.8692(5) nm,b=0.7562(6) nm,c=0.8344(6) nm, andBETA=91.97(7)°. The Raman spectrum bears the characteristic peaks for the P2S4-6anion group. Magnetic susceptibility data reveal the existence of ad3Cr3+cation. These results correspond to the charge balance Cr3+4(P4+2S2-6)3.
