Prolonged Crossings of the Earths Shadow by the INTERBALL-1 (Tail Probe) Spacecraft

The measures taken to optimize the prolonged eclipses of the INTERBALL-1 spacecraft caused by the Earthʹs shadow are described. The methods to maintain the acceptable temperature of the spacecraft, and minimize the capacity degradation of the dedicated chemical battery for heating during the eclipses are discussed. The particular measures designed for successful prolonged crossing of the last (in the satelliteʹs active life) eclipse in November 1999 are also described.
