Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate whether, in normal-preure glaucoma, the level of intraocular preure i correlated with the degree of glaucomatou optic nerve damage.
Method
Color tereo optic dik photograph of 98 eye with the focal type of normal-preure glaucoma, 17 eye with the highly myopic type of normal-preure glaucoma, and 36 eye with the age-related atrophic type of primary open-angle glaucoma were morphometrically evaluated.
Reult
In all three tudy group, neuroretinal rim area declined ignificantly (P <.05) with increaing maximal intraocular preure value.
Concluion
In different form of open-angle glaucoma with normal intraocular preure, eye with relatively high intraocular preure have more pronounced optic nerve damage than do eye with relatively low intraocular preure. Thi ugget a barotraumatic apect in the pathogenei of optic nerve damage in the normal-preure glaucoma. It implie that therapeutically, an intraocular preure in the low-normal range may le likely be aociated with glaucoma damage than an intraocular preure in the upper-normal range would be.
