Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate the effect of poterior ubtenon injection of corticoteroid on intraocular preure in a variety of ocular dieae.
Method
We retropectively analyzed 202 conecutive poterior ubtenon corticoteroid injection (148 of methylpredniolone acetate, 80 mg, and 54 of triamcinolone acetonide, 40 mg) in 63 eye of 55 patient (26 male, 29 female; mean age ± D, 60.17 ± 26.55 year). All patient had received topical or ytemic corticoteroid before the injection, and no rie in intraocular preure had been noted. Preinjection and potinjection intraocular preure meaurement were compared by two-tailed paired t tet. tatitical analyi wa performed eparately by patient (firt injection of firt injected eye), by eye (firt injection of each eye), and by all injection. To detect increae in intraocular preure during follow-up, tatitical analyi wa performed eparately 14 to 90 day, 91 to 150 day, and 151 to 270 day after injection.
Reult
No tatitically ignificant difference wa found between preinjection and potinjection intraocular preure meaurement. A power calculation in the mot tringent ubanalyi (by patient) proved that there i only a 3.87% chance to tatitically mi a clinically ignificant rie in intraocular preure from 15 to 21 mm Hg.
Concluion
Poterior ubtenon injection of corticoteroid doe not caue an increae in intraocular preure. All patient in our tudy had been treated previouly with topical or ytemic corticoteroid and did not react with an exceive increae in intraocular preure. Thi afety of repoitory corticoteroid may therefore not apply to patient whoe tatu in reponding to corticoteroid i not known.
