Abstract :
Purpoe To compare the reult of combined trabeculectomy and phacoemulification urgery with intraocular len implant by mean of a one-ite v a two-ite approach. Method Glaucomatou patient with a coexiting cataract were randomly aigned to undergo either a one-ite or two-ite combined procedure. One-ite urgery wa performed with a limbu-baed conjunctival flap and cleral tunnel at the 12-oʹclock poition. Two-ite urgery wa performed with a limbu-baed conjunctival flap for the trabeculectomy in the uperior naal quadrant and a temporal clear cornea inciion for phaco-emulification. Mitomycin C (0.4 mg/ml for 2 minute) wa applied to the cleral urface at the trabeculectomy ite for both approache. All patient received intraocular len implant at the time of combined urgery. Reult Thirty-three eye of 33 patient were included in thi tudy. Preoperative intraocular preure and number of glaucoma medication were imilar in the two group. Corrected viual acuity improved imilarly in both group. Intraocular preure decreaed in both group at lat follow-up but wa not ignificantly different (P = .129) between the one-ite and two-ite group. At lat follow-up, the one-ite group required ignificantly more (P = .030) medication than did the two-ite group. Concluion Combined trabeculectomy and phacoemulification urgery in which one-ite and two-ite technique were ued yielded imilar improvement in corrected viual acuity and intraocular preure reduction. However, the one-ite group required more medication to maintain intra-ocular preure control than did the two-ite group.
