Abstract :
Purpoe
To compare the analgeic efficacy and afety of nonpreerved ketorolac tromethamine 0.5% with thoe of it vehicle in the treatment of poturgical ocular pain following radial keratotomy.
Method
Thi tudy employed a multicenter, double-maked, randomized, parallel-group deign. Radial keratotomy patient were treated with either nonpreerved ketorolac tromethamine 0.5% or it vehicle four time daily for up to 3 day following urgery. Patient were provided with an ecape medication (acetaminophen) for ue only a needed for intolerable pain.
Reult
Patient treated with ketorolac reported ignificantly greater pain relief (P ≤.023), le pain intenity (P ≤.047), le ue of ecape medication (P ≤.001), fewer ymptom of ocular dicomfort (P =.024), and fewer leep diturbance (P ≤.013) than did patient treated with vehicle. No treatment-related advere event were reported in the ketorolac group, and only one treatment-related advere event wa reported in the vehicle group. Concluion
Nonpreerved ketorolac tromethamine 0.5% ophthalmic olution wa ignificantly more effective than, and a afe a, vehicle in the treatment of potoperative pain aociated with radial keratotomy. Therefore, topical ketorolac may be a valuable treatment option for the maintenance of patient comfort following refractive urgery.
