Abstract :
Purpoe
To provide a practical review of the ophthalmologic manifetation of intracranial vacular abnormalitie.
Method
We reviewed ocular manifetation of the mot common intracranial vacular abnormalitie: intracranial aneurym, carotid-cavernou fitula, arteriovenou malformation, and cavernou malformation.
Reult
Unruptured aneurym can compre the third cranial nerve and the anterior viual pathway. Ruptured aneurym and ubarachnoid hemorrhage can reult in Teron yndrome and papilledema. Direct and indirect carotid-cavernou fitula mot commonly caue the claic triad of proptoi, conjunctival chemoi, and cranial bruit but can maquerade a chronic conjunctiviti. Arteriovenou malformation, with or without hemorrhage, may compre portion of the retrochiamal pathway, cauing viual field lo. Cavernou malformation, when in the braintem, commonly caue abnormalitie of upranuclear, nuclear, and facicular ocular motility.
Concluion
The ophthalmologit may be the firt phyician to encounter clinical manifetation of intracranial vacular abnormalitie that may herald devatating neurologic complication. Prompt diagnoi facilitate appropriate management and therapy.
