Abstract :
Purpoe: To report uturele cataract urgery by phacoemulification with a 3.2-mm urgical inciion compared with a 5.5-mm urgical inciion.
Method: In a propective, randomized, maked clinical trial of phacoemulification cataract urgery, 55 eye (55 patient) had a 3.2-mm inciion and 56 eye (56 patient) had a 5.5-mm inciion. All inciion were in the uperior vertical meridian, commenced 1.5 mm poterior to the limbu, and extended into the cornea for a total length of 2.5 to 3.0 mm. In a maked fahion, atigmatim wa monitored by keratometry, and logMAR viual acuity wa determined both with and without bet correction throughout a mean follow-up of 33.9 month.
Reult: tatitically ignificant difference were een in favor of the 3.2-mm inciion group at the final examination for atigmatim (Cravy analyi) and uncorrected viual acuity (−0.18 v −0.88 diopter, P < .001; logMAR, 0.14 v 0.26, P = .04).
Concluion: Over the long term, phacoemulification with a 3.2-mm inciion i aociated with ignificantly le atigmatic hift and better uncorrected viual acuity than i phacoemulification with a 5.5-mm inciion. A mall inciion with a foldable intraocular len ha long-term benefit.
