Abstract
Purpoe: To tudy the hitopathologic finding of poterior capular plaque, a leion that i dicovered frequently in eye undergoing cataract urgery in the developing world.
Method: Two hundred human crytalline lene removed from 200 eye of 200 patient who underwent intracapular cataract extraction at agarmatha Choudhary Eye Hopital in Nepal were analyzed hitopathologically.
Reult: Forty-nine lene (24.5%) had a poterior capular plaque. We confirm that the poterior plaque are compoed of collagen that tain poitively for Maon trichrome tain and that form after peudofibrou metaplaia of len cell along the poterior capule. The plaque form in a fahion analogou to a healing proce.
Concluion: We potulate that poterior capular plaque reult from poterior migration of epithelium and peudofibrou metaplaia of len epithelium. Mot of the poterior capular plaque are minute and not likely to affect viion. However, a mall percentage of plaque are thicker and are likely to impair viion after extracapular cataract urgery.
