Abstract
Purpoe: To report an unuual cae of birth injury caued by an internal fetal monitoring piral electrode.
Method: Cae report.
Reult: A neonate with eyelid laceration wa examined within the firt hour of life after a fetal calp electrode wa inadvertently affixed to the left upper eyelid during labor. The uperficial laceration healed without equelae, and there wa no globe injury.
Concluion: Ocular adnexal birth injury by a fetal monitoring calp electrode ha been reported rarely. Becaue fetal brow malpreentation i uncommon, the occurrence of thi injury i unuual. Although alarming, the periorbital edema aociated with thi malpreentation probably protect the eyelid from perforation and the globe from injury.
