  • Abstract
Purpoe: To report the clinical appearance and coure of intratromal cleft occurring with acute hydrop in keratoconu. Method: In eight patient with bilateral keratoconu, nine eye developed acute corneal hydrop complicated by intratromal cleft formation. One patient developed thi complication in both eye. The patient, three female and five male, had a mean age of 20 year (range, 11 to 36 year) and were followed after onet of acute hydrop for a median of 8 month (range, 2.5 to 21 month). The patient in thi retropective tudy were identified and had been treated at one of two intitutional cornea referral practice. Reult: In eight of nine eye with intratromal cleft, complete cleft cloure occurred between 6 week and 6 month. In one eye, cleft cloure wa nearly complete in a patient followed up for only 4.5 month after onet of hydrop. Corneal tromal neovacularization developed in ix of the nine of eye. At the lat follow-up viit, four of the ix untreated eye had a bet-corrected viual acuity of 20/200 or wore. The patient with intratromal cleft in both eye did not develop tromal neovacularization and achieved a contact len corrected viual acuity of 20/40 or better in each eye without urgical intervention. Concluion: Intratromal cleft formation i a manifetation of corneal hydrop in keratoconu. ingle or multiple cleft can occur, and bilateral involvement i poible. Cleft generally cloe over a period of month, but tromal neovacularization i common and may compromie future graft urvival.
