Abstract :
PURPOE: To determine whether choroidal neovacularization exciion caue mechanical damage to the neuroenory retina, retinal pigment epithelium, or choriocapillari. METHOD: Propectively, 18 eye of 18 conecutive patient who underwent choroidal neovacularization exciion were oberved. Preoperatively and potoperatively, the integrity of the choriocapillari circulation in the pathway of choroidal neovacularization extraction wa tudied by fluorecein and indocyanine green angiography. Uing tatic canning laer ophthalmocope microperimetry, the preence of iatrogenic cotoma that developed potoperatively in the pathway of choroidal neovacularization extraction wa alo invetigated. REULT: Potoperatively, a choriocapillari defect wa detected in 17 (94.4%) of 18 cae. In 15 cae (83.3%), the choriocapillari defect had a clear relationhip to the pathway of choroidal neovacularization extraction. Potoperatively, a cotoma wa preent in 16 (88.9%) of 18 cae. In 14 cae (77.8%), the location of the cotoma had a clear relationhip to the pathway of choroidal neovacularization extraction. CONCLUION: urgical exciion of choroidal neovacularization lead to evere damage of the choroid and retina in the pathway of the extracted choroidal neovacularization. The injury involve the neuroenory retina, retinal pigment epithelium, and choriocapillari.
