Abstract :
PURPOE: To report the cycloporine-induced complication of optic neuropathy, partial external ophthalmoplegia, and other neurologic abnormalitie. METHOD: Cae report. A 22-year-old man with evere active Crohn dieae developed bilateral optic neuropathy, nytagmu, external ophthalmoplegia, and ataxia on the fifth day of cycloporine A (CyA) parenteral therapy. REULT: Cycloporine therapy wa dicontinued a oon a toxic clinical manifetation appeared. Cycloporine blood level detected then wa 1,290 ng/ml (therapeutic level: 150 to 300 ng/ml). Partial external ophthalmoplegia improved dramatically; however, the patient’ optic neuropathy progreed to optic atrophy, leaving the patient viually impaired. Variou poible mechanim for cycloporine-induced neurotoxicity are dicued. CONCLUION: It i important to cloely monitor neuro-ophthalmologic and neurologic ign of patient treated with cycloporine.
