Triple viral retiniti diagnoed by polymerae chain reaction of the vitreou biopy in a patient with richter yndrome

PURPOE: To report the evaluation and identification of herpe virue aociated with retiniti in a patient with Richter yndrome. METHOD: Diagnotic vitrectomy wa performed on a patient with ytemic leukemia and retiniti. The vitreou ample wa evaluated by cytology, analyi of cytokine by ELIA, and detection of viru by polymerae chain reaction. REULT: The vitreou biopy pecimen howed no malignant cell but predominant CD8+ lymphocyte infiltration with elevated interferon gamma and interleukin-6. DNA amplification and outhern blot analyi demontrated DNA of herpe implex, varicella-zoter, and cytomegaloviru. CONCLUION: Retiniti aociated with multiple virue in the vitreou biopy may mimic leukemic infiltration in the eye.
