The urvival of adenoviru in multidoe bottle of topical fluorecein

PURPOE: To determine if common ocular adenoviru erotype urvive in vitro in multidoe bottle of topical fluorecein (Flure; Pilkington Barne Hind, Inc, unnyvale, California). METHOD: Clinical iolate of adenoviru type 8 and 19 were inoculated eparately into 10 bottle each of Flure and maintained at room temperature (25 C). All bottle were titered for adenoviru on A549 cell monolayer at 0, 7, 14, 21, 28, and 49 day. REULT: Adenoviru wa recovered from Flure for up to 21 day for adenoviru type 19 and 28 day for adenoviru type 8. CONCLUION: A multidoe bottle of Flure contaminated with adenoviru can be a potential ource of adenoviral tranmiion in an ophthalmic office etting.
