Abnormal collagen fibril in nanophthalmo: a clinical and hitologic tudy

PURPOE: To report the ucceful treatment of choroidal detachment in a patient with nanophthalmo and to report hitopathologic finding in thi patient’ clera. METHOD: Choroidal detachment, econdary angle cloure, and nanophthalmo were diagnoed uing biomicrocopy, indirect ophthalmocopy, and echography. Full-thickne clerectomie in four quadrant were made on the right eye. clerae from thee clerectomie were tudied ultratructurally. REULT: Bet-corrected viual acuity improved to RE, 20/60 from 20/100 preoperatively; the anterior chamber deepened, and the choroidal detachment reolved. Hitopathologic tudie of each of the three cleral layer dicloed abnormal collagen fibril that were frayed, plit, and contained lightly tained core. CONCLUION: New finding include the identification of collagen with lightly tained center and identification of difference in collagen morphology in different area of the clera in a nanophthalmic eye.
