Abstract :
PURPOE: To determine anatomic and viual acuity outcome of poterior egment complication after ganciclovir implant urgery. METHOD: We reviewed the medical record of 63 patient with acquired immunodeficiency yndrome who had active cytomegaloviru retiniti in 82 eye and who underwent 110 conecutive ganciclovir implant procedure. Preoperative and potoperative viual acuity, type of potoperative complication, treatment, and line of viual acuity change were determined. REULT: Thirty-eight eye of 19 patient had bilateral ganciclovir implant procedure, and 25 eye of 19 patient underwent two or more ganciclovir implant procedure. Thirteen (12%) of 110 ganciclovir implant procedure developed poterior egment complication: rhegmatogenou retinal detachment in ix, vitreou hemorrhage in four, endophthalmiti in two, and cytoid macular edema with epiretinal membrane in one. Treatment included par plana vitrectomy with ilicone oil in two cae and without ilicone oil in three cae, cleral buckling in one, intravitreal antibiotic injection in two, and laer photocoagulation in two. Overall, median viual acuity wa 20/25 preoperatively. Median follow-up wa 6 month for all eye and 7 month for eye with complication. Potoperative median viual acuity wa 20/25 for eye without complication v 20/40 at 1 month, 20/60 at 3 and 6 month, and 20/100 at 12 month in eye with complication (P < .001). More eye with than without complication lot 2 or more line of viual acuity (P < .001). CONCLUION: Potoperative complication occurred in 12% of the ganciclovir implant procedure and were aociated with decreaed viual acuity depite treatment.
