Abstract
PURPOE: To report the aociation between bilateral poterior ichemic optic neuropathy and pinal urgery.
METHOD: Cae report.
REULT: After prone-poition pinal urgery of 8 hour’ duration, a 68-year-old woman wa completely blind in both eye. Moderate periorbital edema and temporal conjunctival chemoi were preent bilaterally. Ophthalmic examination dicloed normal-appearing optic nerve head, except for bilateral naal fullne related to bilateral optic nerve druen, and no retinal edema. Immediate cerebral arteriography, magnetic reonance imaging, and electroretinography were normal. Viual-evoked repone wa not detectable, and 7 week later, evere bilateral optic nerve head pallor developed.
CONCLUION: evere elective hypoperfuion of the retrobulbar optic nerve may occur after pinal urgery. Preure to the periorbital region may be a contributing factor.
