Abstract :
Purpoe: Healthy ubject were recruited to identify normal, age-aociated change in intraocular preure and aqueou humor dynamic. Method: Normal healthy ubject from two age group were enrolled in the tudy: (1) thoe from 20 to 30 year of age (n = 51) and (2) thoe 60 year of age and older (n = 53). Intraocular preure wa meaured by pneumatonometry, tonographic outflow facility by pneumatonography, and epicleral venou preure by venomanometry. Aqueou flow and outflow facility were determined by a fluorophotometric technique. Uveocleral outflow and anterior chamber volume were calculated. Reult from the older group were compared with thoe from the younger group by mean of unpaired, two-tailed t tet. Reult: Compared with the younger group, the older group howed ignificant difference a follow: maller anterior chamber volume (160 ± 39 v 247 ± 39 μl; mean ± D; P < .00001), reduced aqueou flow (2.4 ± 0.6 v 2.8 ± 0.8 μl/minute; P = .002), and reduced uveocleral outflow (1.10 ± 0.81 v 1.52 ± 0.81 μl/minute; P = .009). Concluion: In the healthy aging eye, there i a reduction in the production of aqueou humor and a reduction in it drainage through the uveocleral outflow pathway.
