Ultraound biomicrocopy in peripheral retinovitreal toxocariai

PURPOE: To report ultraound biomicrocopic feature in peripheral retinovitreal Toxocara uveiti. METHOD: Three patient with unilateral vitreiti upected to be caued by peripheral toxocariai were referred for ultraound biomicrocopic examination of the peripheral retina, par plana, and adjacent vitreou. REULT: In two of the three patient, characteritic peudocytic tranformation of the peripheral vitreou wa een. In both patient, Toxocara erology wa poitive and eoinophilia wa preent. In the third patient, no peudocytic tranformation of the peripheral vitreou wa een; however, there wa the dene thickening adjacent to the par plana uually een by ultraound biomicrocopy in par planiti and correponding to clinically viible nowbank. The third patient had a negative Toxocara erology and later developed bilateral intermediate uveiti of the par planiti type. In none of 48 patient with divere inflammatory condition of the retroiridal pace that were examined by ultraound biomicrocopy were the characteritic Toxocara-aociated peudocytic image een. CONCLUION: Peudocytic tranformation of the peripheral vitreou appear to be a rather pecific and enitive ultraound biomicrocopic ign in patient with preumed peripheral toxocariai that will likely aid diagnoi in difficult cae.
