Malignant tranformation of an optic dik melanocytoma Original Reearch Article

PURPOE: To report a cae of malignant tranformation of an optic dik melanocytoma with a econd melanocytoma in the ciliary body. METHOD: Clinical data including viual acuity, viual field, color fundu photograph, fluorecein angiogram, and ultraonogram and hitopathologic tudie of thi cae were reviewed. REULT: The right eye of a 65-year-old white woman wa diagnoed with melanocytoma of the optic nerve. Four year later, the tumor became ignificantly larger. The bet-corrected viual acuity declined from 20/40 to counting finger and the ize of the tumor increaed fourfold in 2 year. The right globe wa enucleated. Hitopathologic tudie demontrated moderately pigmented pindle-B malignant melanoma cell adjacent to and within a population of large, polyhedral, heavily pigmented melanocytoma cell that extended to the lamina cribroa and optic nerve. There wa alo a deeply pigmented melanocytoma in the ciliary body. CONCLUION: Thi i a rare cae of malignant melanoma tranformed from an optic dik melanocytoma. Periodic follow-up of the patient with optic dik melanocytoma i neceary.
