The urvival of herpe implex viru in multidoe office ophthalmic olution

PURPOE: To determine the urvival of herpe implex viru type 1 (HV-1) in everal multidoe ophthalmic olution. METHOD: In three eparate trial, 10 aliquot of 5 ml each of three common multidoe topical ophthalmic olution, odium fluorecein, proparacaine, and nonpreerved artificial tear, were inoculated with 105, 104, and 103 pfu per ml of HV-1. All ample were titered on A549 cell at variou time point for urviving HV-1. REULT: Herpe implex viru type 1 wa not recovered from the fluorecein and proparacaine olution at 1 hour or any time thereafter, regardle of inoculation titer. Herpe implex viru type 1 wa recovered from the artificial tear up to 7 day. CONCLUION: Unlike adenoviru, HV-1 doe not urvive in preerved fluorecein and proparacaine multidoe olution; therefore, office tranmiion i highly unlikely.
