Abstract :
PURPOE: Although recurrence are typical of congenital toxoplamoi, the long-term ocular manifetation in potnatally acquired toxoplamoi have never been ytematically tudied. We report on the ocular manifetation complicating the chronic phae of potnatally acquired toxoplamoi. METHOD: Review of the clinical data of 14 patient who preented with active ocular toxoplamoi not aociated with car and who had erologic characteritic of recently acquired ytemic toxoplamoi. Abtract REULT: Mean follow-up wa 4.6 year. Recurrent ocular dieae developed in eight (57%) of 14 cae. The number of patient with recurrence increaed with the follow-up time: four (29%) of 14 during the firt year of follow-up; eight (57%) of 14 during the econd year; and eight of nine during the third follow-up year. No rik factor for the development of recurrence were identified. atellite leion developed in five of eight patient with recurrence, wherea leion not adjacent to old car, located in area of previouly unaffected retina, developed in three patient. CONCLUION: In potnatally acquired toxoplamoi, frequent recurrence of ocular dieae can be een during the chronic phae of infection.
