Abstract :
PURPOE:
To evaluate the tomographic feature of the retina in patient with evere myopia and poterior taphyloma.
METHOD:
In a propective tudy of 32 eye of 19 conecutive patient with evere myopia and poterior taphyloma, we performed complete ophthalmic examination and tudied cro-ectional image of the macula with optical coherence tomography. Patient’ age ranged from 41 to 83 year (average, 62.7 year). Bet-corrected viual acuity ranged from 20/500 to 20/40 (average, 20/120). The tudy included 26 phakic and ix peudophakic eye. The refractive error of 26 phakic eye ranged from −8 to −31 diopter (average, −16.7 diopter). Although refractive error were within −8 diopter in ix peudophakic eye, the eye had apparent poterior taphyloma. The axial length meaured by A-mode ultraonography ranged from 25.7 to 32.7 mm (average, 29.2 mm). lit-lamp examination with contact len howed that none of the eye had a macular hole.
REULT:
In nine eye with hallow retinal elevation on lit-lamp examination, optical coherence tomography dicloed a foveal retinal detachment with retinochii in eight eye and a foveal retinal detachment in one eye. Two of the remaining 23 eye had retinochii.
CONCLUION:
Foveal retinal detachment and retinochii are common feature in everely myopic eye with poterior taphyloma. Retinal detachment may precede the formation of a macular hole in everely myopic eye.
