Exophiala jeanelmei cauing late endophthalmiti after cataract urgery

PURPOE: To report two cae of late endophthalmiti caued by Exophiala jeanelmei after cataract urgery. METHOD: Cae report, including clinical evaluation, direct examination, and culture of the aqueou humor. REULT: In each cae, ample from the anterior chamber had poitive growth of yeat with toruloid hyphae and peudohyphae. Intravitreal and anterior chamber amphotericin B were ued in both cae. Apparent clinical reolution wa achieved, but after 3 month in one cae and 6 month in the other the infection recurred more aggreively, with evere endophthalmiti leading to ocular atrophy. CONCLUION: E. jeanelmei caue a evere intraocular infection and iolation, and identification of the agent enure proper diagnoi and treatment. After clinical reolution of the infection, careful and long-term follow-up i recommended to promptly detect relape and immediately reintroduce treatment.
