Retinal detachment in myopic eye after laer in itu keratomileui Original Reearch Article

PURPOE: To analyze the incidence and characteritic of retinal detachment in myopic patient treated by laer-aited in itu keratomileui. METHOD: We retropectively tudied the retinal detachment oberved in 1,554 conecutive eye (878 patient) undergoing laer-aited in itu keratomileui for the correction of myopia (follow-up, 30.34 ± 10.27 month; range, 16 to 54). Mean patient age wa 33.09 ± 8.6 year (range, 20 to 60). Before treatment with laer-aited in itu keratomileui, all patient had a comprehenive examination, and detected leion predipoing to retinal detachment were treated before performing the laer-aited in itu keratomileui procedure. REULT: Retinal detachment occurred in four (0.25%) of 1,554 eye of four (0.45%) of 878 patient. All four patient who developed retinal detachment in one eye were women. Degree of preoperative myopia wa −13.52 ± 3.38 diopter (range, −8.00 to −27.50). The time interval between refractive urgery and retinal detachment wa 11.25 ± 8.53 month (range, 2 to 19 month). In all cae retinal detachment wa pontaneou. In all eye the retina wa reattached uccefully at the firt retinal detachment urgery. Mean bet-corrected viual acuity after laer-aited in itu keratomileui and before retinal detachment development wa 20/43 (range, 20/50 to 20/30). After retinal detachment repair, bet-corrected viual acuity wa 20/45 (range, 20/50 to 20/32). Difference between bet-corrected viual acuity before and after reattachment were not tatitically ignificant (P = .21, paired tudent t tet). A myopic hift wa induced in three eye that had retinal detachment repaired by cleral buckling, from −0.58 ± 0.72 diopter (range, +0.25 to −1.00) before retinal detachment and −2.25 ± 1.14 diopter (range, −1.00 to −3.25) after retinal detachment urgery (P = .03, paired tudent t tet). CONCLUION: Laer-aited in itu keratomileui for correction of myopia i followed by a low incidence of retinal detachment. Conventional cleral buckling urgery wa ucceful in mot cae and did not caue ignificant change in the final bet-corrected viual acuity. A ignificant increae in the myopic pherical equivalent wa oberved after cleral buckling in thee patient.
