Abstract :
PURPOE:
To report preenting characteritic a well a anatomic and viual reult in aymptomatic clinical rhegmatogenou retinal detachment repaired by cleral buckling.
METHOD: Review of 28 eye of 27 patient with an aymptomatic clinical retinal detachment—defined a a rhegmatogenou retinal detachment with ubretinal fluid extending more than 2 dik diameter poterior to the equator—which were repaired by cleral buckling from January 1989 through December 1996 with follow-up of 6 month or longer.
REULT: With a ingle cleral buckling procedure, anatomic reattachment of the retina occurred in all eye; one eye redetached 14 month after the initial urgery econdary to a new retinal break and wa uccefully reattached. All eye had bet-corrected preenting and final viual acuity of 20/50 or better. Final bet-corrected nellen viual acuity wa within 1 line of bet-corrected preenting viual acuity in 82% of eye; three eye improved more than 1 line of nellen viual acuity and two eye lot more than 1 line.
CONCLUION: Anatomic and viual reult in aymptomatic clinical rhegmatogenou retinal detachment after cleral buckling urgery are excellent. trong conideration hould be given to repair of thee detachment.
