Abstract :
PURPOE:
To alert ophthalmologit to congenital trigeminal anetheia a a caue of corneal carring and amblyopia and it effective treatment with tarorrhaphie.
METHOD:
Cae report. A 2-month-old infant preented with bilateral corneal eroion and complete corneal anetheia. Her iter preented at age 3 year with a corneal ulcer and corneal hypoetheia (enation markedly decreaed). The father and paternal grandmother of the ibling alo had corneal hypoetheia.
REULT:
Further invetigation of the infant revealed bilateral hearing lo, wallowing difficultie, and decreaed enation in the trigeminal nerve ditribution. A diagnoi of congenital trigeminal anetheia wa made. The corneal eroion of the patient reolved with bilateral two-third width tarorrhaphie. The girl continue to do well now at 10 year of age with ocular lubrication and uperficial corneal car removal. Her older iter initially required antibiotic ointment for her corneal ulcer but now require only ocular lubrication for congenital trigeminal anetheia.
CONCLUION:
Thi tudy decribe the earliet reported ue of tarorrhaphie in an infant with congenital trigeminal anetheia. The preence of thi condition in her iter and relative make it one of the few report of congenital trigeminal anetheia in more than two generation. Early recognition of thi condition i eential in the preervation of ueful viion.
