Abstract :
PURPOE:
To quantify and compare, on a point-by-point bai, the long-term variability of tandard and hort-wavelength automated perimetry in a group of table glaucoma patient.
METHOD:
From a group of 53 glaucoma patient experienced in viual field teting, we identified one eye, randomly choen, from each of 25 glaucoma patient whoe condition wa found to be table, baed on both tandard and hort-wavelength automated perimetry viual field criteria. On each of three viit during a period of up to 3 month, each patient performed one tandard and one hort-wavelength automated perimetry 24-2 viual field in a random order on a Humphrey viual field analyzer. The long-term variability (alo referred to a tet-retet variability) wa defined a the D of the three threhold decibel value at each tet location. The long-term variability for each tet point (mean ± D) wa determined eparately for both tandard viual field and hort-wavelength automated perimetry.
REULT:
With all 52 tet location of the 24-2 field averaged, the global long-term variability, mean (± D) for tandard viual field and hort-wavelength automated perimetry wa 2.37 ± 2.03 dB (95% confidence interval, 2.26–2.48 dB) and 2.92 ± 2.03 dB (95% confidence interval, 2.81–3.03 dB), repectively (P< .0001). In 16 of the 52 viual field location, long-term variability on hort-wavelength automated perimetry wa ignificantly higher than long-term variability on tandard viual field. In addition, the long-term variability increaed with greater ditance from the point of fixation for both tandard viual field and hort-wavelength automated perimetry. The long-term variability decreaed cloer to fixation, more for tandard viual field than for hort-wavelength automated perimetry.
CONCLUION:
In a group of table glaucoma patient, mean long-term variability wa 0.55 dB higher for hort-wavelength automated perimetry than for tandard viual field. Thi need to be taken into conideration when erial viual field are evaluated for change.
