Induction of cataract of varying degree of hardne in human eye obtained potmortem for cataract urgeon training

PURPOE: To report a method of inducing nuclear cataract of varying degree of hardne uing intralenticular injection of the Karnovky olution. METHOD: Twelve potmortem human eye were prepared according to the Miyake–Apple poterior video technique. After performing capulorhexi and hydrodiection/delineation, 0.2 ml of the Karnovky olution wa injected into the len nucleu of the eye. Manual extracapular cataract extraction technique and variou two-handed phacoemulification maneuver were then practiced at variou time interval after the injection. REULT: Uniform nuclear cataract with varying degree of hardne were uccefully induced in all globe. The optimum doe of the Karnovky olution and time for induction of nuclear hardne of grade 3 (ideal for practicing two-handed phacoemulification maneuver) were 0.2 ml and 15 minute, repectively. CONCLUION: The Karnovky olution can be uccefully ued for the induction of hard, uniform nuclear cataract for learning/practicing extracapular cataract extraction and phacoemulification
