  • Abstract
    PURPOE: To etimate the incidence and decribe the characteritic of immune recovery uveiti in patient with acquired immunodeficiency yndrome (AID) and cytomegaloviru retiniti treated with highly active antiretroviral therapy. METHOD: The record of all patient with AID and cytomegaloviru retiniti from 1995 to 1998 een at the AID Ophthalmology ervice of the John Hopkin Medical Intitution were reviewed. Eighty-two patient with cytomegaloviru retiniti treated with highly active antiretroviral therapy were identified. Thirty-three patient (40.2%) were claified a reponder to highly active antiretroviral therapy, defined a an increae in CD4+ T-cell count by 50 cell/μL or more to a level of 100 cell/μL or more. REULT: Immune recovery uveiti occurred in ix patient. Among the 33 patient with an immunologic repone to highly active antiretroviral therapy, the incidence rate of immune recovery uveiti wa 0.109/peron-year. Ocular complication aociated with immune recovery uveiti included cytoid macular edema (four patient), epiretinal membrane (two patient), and optic dik neovacularization (one patient). CONCLUION: Immune recovery uveiti wa uncommon in our population but may have viion-impairing complication
